Building A Living Legacy
Help us in Building a Living Legacy! As part of the MIBOR Centennial celebration, the REALTOR® Foundation will help build or renovate 32 residences on Indianapolis’ Near Eastside for homeless or at risk homeless families. Through support services coordinated by the John H. Boner Community Center, the families will be on the path to stability. Click here for more information on the project! |

Next steps
Help us spread the word! Do you have a Web site, a Facebook page, a Twitter account? If so, connect to the Foundation and help your friends do the same! Our goal is to spread the word that the Foundation’s mission to solve homelessness is one that will take all hands on deck! If you are a member of the real estate community or a business owner, you often ask for referrals for business. Now we are asking you for a referral to this important
cause.

Grant requests reveal urgent need

In August, the REALTOR® Foundation received 18 requests for support totaling more than $260,000. Each of the grant applicants for 2011 has felt the pain of our economic condition, and it shows in the application narrative. One applicant has commented, “We are really hurting financially this year. Just during the first 3 months of our fiscal year (July 1, 2010 - September 30, 2010) we are down 39 percent in our total revenues.”
As the Foundation Board and its grants committee review the applications and begin to make difficult decisions, your help is truly needed. Help us fund these requests! Here are some specific examples of requests that we wish we could fund:
- One shelter has requested help with a furnace and air conditioning unit as well as security cameras at the residents’ door
- Three organizations help youth ages 18-22 who are homeless find stable and supported housing
- A domestic violence shelter needs to add services and space for its residents in an expanded facility
These are just a few examples of the many truly deserving requests that are under consideration. Every dollar that you donate makes a difference to the families and individuals being served by our grants. Please help us with a gift of $100, $50, $25, or $10 today by clicking here!
Kristie Smith issues challenge for Foundation Awareness Week’s success
Hundreds of local real estate professionals helped make this year’s Foundation Awareness Week a success. From the Make a Difference Day, to collection of basic items, to a packed house at Taste of Indy, there was something for everyone. Perhaps none made such a difference as Kristie Smith, an agent with ERA Real Estate Links and the Indy Homes Team. Kristie made a $5,000 challenge gift at Taste of Indy that helped motivate guests to buy raffle tickets and paper dolls. Said Kristie of the decision, “When I thought about my gift motivating others to give, I felt it was the right decision.”
Including Kristie’s challenge, a total of $13,499 was raised through the various events of Foundation Awareness Week.
Thanks goes to our host Stenz Realty Group (Residences at 429 on the Park), and sponsors Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Irongate Inspection, the Affiliate Division of MIBOR, Stonegate Mortgage, and the Tour Factory, as well as Knights of Columbus for the table donations.
Congratulations to our iPad raffle winner, David Morris and our 50/50 winner, Heather Jaffe Pappas.
