Dove Recovery House for Women
“Happiness comes through a door that you didn’t know had been left open.” This quote hangs close to the front door at Dove Recovery House for Women, reminding the residents to have hope and courage for a different lifestyle.
In 2000, Dove Recovery House for Women was formed to meet a desperate need in Marion County: a lack of beds for single, homeless women, especially those battling addiction. Yet, in 2008, the organization nearly closed its doors.
Luckily, Pathway to Recovery, another REALTOR® Foundation grant recipient with a similar mission, stepped in to keep Dove House open. In a true collaborative partnership, the three paid staff at Pathway to Recovery began to fundraise and help the Dove House leadership so that its 25 beds would not be lost.
This year, thanks in part to a $5,000 grant from the REALTOR® Foundation, Dove Recovery House hopes to house 75-100 women and help them get a fresh start clean and sober.
Today, a new door is open for Dove House. Newly installed Executive Director Maggie Lewis says, “This is a new and exciting year for Dove House, now that we are operating independently again. We see it as an opportunity to serve both women with substance abuse issues and women who might need additional services.”
Julie Catton, Foundation Board Member & Golf Chair
Julie Catton is keeping busy these days! As a third-year Foundation Board member and managing broker at Prudential Indiana Realty Group Fishers office, Julie added a new title to her volunteer jobs: chair of this year’s Foundation Golf Outing. For several years, Julie and her husband Tim have helped to organize the outing, but this year she oversees the committee that is seeking sponsorships and players. While it is hard work, Julie feels it pays off when everyone has a fun day of golf for a great cause.
In her “spare” time, Julie loves outdoor adventures, gardening and spending time with Tim and their labradoodle Moe. She is also involved in the Binford Redevelopment and Growth board.
Julie wants to remind everyone to come out and have a great time at this year’s outing!
