I Contributed!

That’s a statement we can all make with pride as we celebrate MIBOR’s 100 Year anniversary and the Building a Living Legacy project.
Not only will you be able say it, but you can show it as well. What better way to celebrate 100 years than with a gift of $100? We are asking every MIBOR member to make a $100 gift to the Building a Living Legacy project in 2011.
To help you promote your commitment to your clients and colleagues, we have developed a special 100 icon that you can use once you make your $100 gift.
Join in today and help make this project a reality. Together we will create a lasting result on the lives of homeless families striving for self sufficiency.

Help us spread the word! Do you have a website, a Facebook page, a Twitter account? If so, connect to the Foundation and help your friends do the same!
Our goal is to spread the word that the Foundation’s mission to solve homelessness is one that will take all hands on deck! If you are a member of the real estate community or a business owner, you often ask for referrals for business. Now we are asking you for a referral to this important cause.

Tara Shares Her Inspirational Story
Former Holy Family shelter resident Tara was a special guest speaker at this year’s Grant Announcement and Donor Wall reception.
Her story is truly inspirational
- a journey that starts with Tara as a drug-addicted teenage mother.
Three years ago, Tara entered the Holy Family emergency shelter, then quickly moved into transitional housing in the Holy Family transitional building. More recently, she has found her own stable housing and met her future husband.
Tara was recently accepted into a Habitat for Humanity program and will soon be a homeowner. Her daughters are thriving in their stable and clean environment and have a future that breaks their previous cycle of poverty and drugs.
Thank you to Tara for sharing this story and to Holy Family for providing services for parents like Tara!

Foundation Announces $100,000 in grants for 2011

On February 3, snow and ice threatened to damper the announcement of this year’s grant recipients. However, the reception, generously sponsored by The National Bank of Indianapolis, provided a bright spot in an otherwise dismal week.
Said new attendee and Ambassador Kim Farinella, “I was impressed to see how many people turned out for the reception - the weather conditions were horrible, and it just goes to show how a heart can be moved once a person becomes involved. I learned that Indianapolis has needs far greater than I imagined and that there are organizations desperately trying to fill those needs. I am thankful to Dan Bowden for encouraging me to be a part of a group that is active in working toward a solution.”
The Foundation’s announcement of $100,000 in grants this year matches the highest grant total in our history and improves upon last year’s grants by $15,000.
Regina Jones, the Foundation’s 2010 president, highlighted the creative ways in which money was raised for this year’s grants that included many hours dedicated to social media.
The Foundation’s Heroes of Hope, those who donated $250 or more in 2010, were recognized at the event as well. Click here for the full list of this year’s Heroes of Hope.
Of special note was a tribute to Delbert Ludlow, former Foundation Board member who passed in 2010.

2011 President's Ball Recap

The Ball 2011 took place on January 22 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Proceeds from the live and silent auction totaled more than $31,000 for the Foundation’s efforts to solve homelessness.
Thank you to all sponsors and those who purchased live or silent auction items to help the cause! Click here for a list of sponsors to this year’s event.
At this year’s Ball, Bill Hacker noted progress toward the Building a Living Legacy project which includes the beginning of construction of nearly half of the homes and our goal to have construction completed with families housed by the Ball 2012. There will be many celebration opportunities in 2012, but the first opportunity for members to become involved is to invest in the Building a Living Legacy homes.
The Foundation congratulates the award winners and leadership installed at this year’s Ball. Click here to see pictures from this year’s Ball.

Stonegate Mortgage
In less than six years of existence, Stonegate Mortgage has become a leader not only in the mortgage industry but also in its philanthropic efforts. Stonegate’s owner, Jim Cutillo, has encouraged his employees to take part in the company’s philanthropic efforts by allowing a staff committee to choose a different charity each month for donations.
In the last couple of years, Stonegate has also increased its sponsorship to the REALTOR® Foundation, believing that the Foundation’s work represents an investment in the community, not just a charitable donation.
Says Jody Bleier, branch manager for the south side branch, “We believe as a company that we should do everything we can to encourage stable housing in this community, from financing of rehab construction loans to investing in the Foundation’s work. In particular, the Building a Living Legacy project on the Near Eastside shows us that the Foundation is focused on families on the path to stability.”
Stonegate exists in the Midwest region and employs between 50-75 people locally with a plan to expand to 300 for residential loans in the next few years.
Thank you to Stonegate for investing in homelessness in central Indiana!
